Bent has only started one Premier League game since September as Lambert decided to make Benteke his first-choice striker.
And Tottenham boss Villas-Boas takes his side to Villa Park on Boxing Day admitting that he has been surprised by how quickly the Belgian has adapted to life in the Premier League.
Benteke signed for Villa for £7m from Belgian side Genk - and Villas-Boas says he has been impressed by Lambert's decisions so far.
"Benteke has eight goals so far in all competitions and I think he is surprising everybody," said Villas-Boas.
"I think to his credit he has come up against strong competition from Bent.
"Paul Lambert was courageous in his decisions to keep on persisting with a player he got so early in the transfer market, so credit to him."
