Manchester City moved eight points clear at the top of the Premier League as they won 3-1 against Newcastle, bringing the Magpies unbeaten start to the season to a halt in the process.
A lively and evenly matched start to the game saw both sides create chances before a disastrous bout of defending from Ryan Taylor allowed City to take a two-goal advantage into the break.

At the other end of the table Wigan ended their seven game losing run as they held rivals Blackburn to a 3-3 draw but they couldn’t move off the foot of the table.
Albert Crusat’s late goal looked to have grabbed all three points for the Latics before Yakubu’s 98th minute penalty cruelly denied them the win. Jordi Gomez and Gary Caldwell also netted for Wigan while Blackburn’s goals came from Yakubu and Junior Hoilett.
Queens Park Rangers moved into the top ten with a vital and hard fought 3-2 away win at Stoke.
Jonathan Walters’ early goal was cancelled out by a Heidar Helguson brace and Luke Young strike as Neil Warnock’s side took a commanding lead. Ryan Shawcross pulled one back for the Potters but they were unable to fully complete the comeback.
