Ba’s future at Newcastle was under constant scrutiny in his final months at the club, and the forward explained he was fully prepared to play for the Magpies against Everton last week when Toon manager Alan Pardew told him his move to the Blues was going ahead.
“I woke up on Wednesday and prepared myself to play against Everton,” said the Senegal international.
“I got a text from the manager to tell me I need to come and see him and from that moment I knew that everything was fixed for me to go."
Ba added that he will always think fondly of the Newcastle fans, who were the best he has played for in his career, but admitted that the move was easy when he knew Chelsea wanted his services.
“When you know a club like Chelsea wants you the decision is going to be easy, with all due respect to Newcastle, because Newcastle is a big club with a big history.
“The Newcastle fans probably wouldn’t be too happy, and I can understand how they feel. They were always there supporting me from day one, they are the best fans I’ve played for and I just want to thank them for what they’ve done for me.
“I’m very happy, very pleased to play with these players [at Chelsea]. They’re world class players and when you play with them it’s something different, they’re really intelligent in the game.
“I just want to enjoy my football here and that’s what I do.”
