The Villans suffered a humiliating 3-1 loss to League Two side Bradford City in the Capital One Cup semi-final first leg on Tuesday night, and Villans chief Lambert has shortened to 4/6 with some bookmakers to be the next Premier League manager to leave his post.
But former Villa Park favourite Ehiogu claims the ex-Norwich boss should stay at Villa Park.
“It’s worrying times for Aston Villa,” he told the Sports Bar. “It’s quite valiant when you’re putting lots of young kids in the team but they need some quality experienced players around them. Certainly in the heart of defence, at centre-half, that’s a key area where they are struggling.
“Sacking Paul Lambert is not the right thing to do,” he added. “I’d like to see him get some money in and start to bring some experienced players in, otherwise the kids are going to get swallowed up.
“You can’t expect a team that’s lost a lot of quality over the last few seasons to be able to compete in every game. There’s no rest bite for them, they’re doing it without any experienced players.”
“They are trying to get rid of Richard Dunne and Darren Bent but they need them,” he said. “If they think they can get rid of those players and bring lesser quality replacements in, and still compete, then they will get a rude awakening.”
