Marc Bircham believes Queens Park Rangers have given themselves the best chance of staying in the Premier League after landing Loic Remy.
The Marseille star completed an £8million switch to Loftus Road on Wednesday after rejecting the chance to join Newcastle.
Rangers currently sit bottom of the table, five points off safety, but Rs legend Bircham claims the Frenchman can save the club from the drop.
“Loic Remy will add pace [to QPR],” he told the Sports Bar. “If anyone’s watched any French football you can see he was a really fancy player.
“Fair play to the board and the owners who have given it one last shot [at staying up]. People have been umming and arring, wondering whether QPR would give it one last go in the transfer market to try and stay up, and they have done.
“The gaffer has got the players that he wants and it gives us a better opportunity to stay up then we had before.
“If he can get one or two more in before the end of the transfer window then that’s a bonus.”
QPR are still the bookies’ favourites to drop down to the Championship at the end of the season, but Bircham claims the west London club can stay in the Premier League.
“QPR will stay up,” he added. “I said that last year and no one believed me. QPR never do things the easy way and, if you look back through our history, that has always been the case. This will be another chapter in that history, another great escape.”
