Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey has urged the club to continue putting their faith in young homegrown talents.
The Reds had eight players in England’s senior and Under-21 squads before the withdrawal of Daniel Sturridge.
And the former Charlton youngster, who has been at Anfield for two-and-a-half years, believes the club’s policy to bring through, or sign, young talent from Britain is paying off.
He said: “I think Liverpool looks like it’s on an up with British players, hopefully we can keep producing them.
“There were meant to be five of us in the Under-21s and obviously there are three of them in the senior squad, but Sturridge pulled out.”
