Exclusive – Ray Parlour: Ashley Cole can win another 20 caps for England

Ashley Cole can go on to win another 20 caps for England, reckons his ex-team-mate Ray Parlour.

The Chelsea star, 32, looks set to make his 100th appearance for the Three Lions against Brazil on Wednesday, and he is currently fighting off Everton left-back Leighton Baines for a starting role in Roy Hodgson’s side.

But Parlour, who played with Cole during his formative years at Arsenal, is sure that the player, who he rates as one of the world’s best, can continue playing for England for another two or three years.

“He’s going to carry on,” he told Hawksbee and Jacobs. “He’s got 100 caps, but he isn’t going to stop there.

“He’s going to try and get as many as he can because it’s a great honour to play for your country. He’s had a great career and this has topped it off for him.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets another ten or 20. But, obviously, he’s got Leighton Baines breathing down his neck and he is playing really well.

“On that football pitch he’s been absolutely fantastic and he’s a great professional. He gives his all in every single game.

“I know he’s getting that little bit older but for me he’ll go up there as one of the best left-backs in the world, without doubt.”
