Former Spurs left winger Matthew Etherington believes Gareth Bale has the potential to be as good as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
The Welsh flyer has been in scintillating form for Tottenham of late, scoring four in their last three games, including a brilliant brace against Newcastle United.
And Etherington, 31, believes that if the 23-year-old continues to develop his game he can rival the Real Madrid and Barcelona stars as one of the world’s best players.
“He’s an absolutely top, top player,” said the Stoke City star. “Barring Ronaldo and Messi he’s up there with the best players in the world. If he keeps improving then who says he can’t get to their level?
“He’s been absolutely outstanding this year and he’s scoring goals week in, week out, which has added to his game.
“I’m sure Spurs will feel very lucky to have him.”
