Exclusive – Robbie Fowler impressed by Liverpool’s progress under Brendan Rodgers

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has told talkSPORT that the club is developing well under Brendan Rodgers.

The former Swansea boss replaced Kenny Dalglish in the summer and after a slow start the Reds now find themselves edging closer to the top six.

And Fowler believes that once they add one, or two, players to their squad, and their young players mature, they will once again be able to compete with the elite teams in the top flight.

He said: “You look at it all season. Gradually the performances have been better and the consistency is there.

“On paper the first 11 probably could match Manchester United, Man City and Chelsea but Liverpool’s problem is the lack of depth in the squad.

“They’ve got a lot of young players and potentially in a few years they could all be magnificent but we all want the success and we want it now, and Liverpool cannot currently compete with the top three yet.”

And asked about his thoughts on the Northern Irish boss, he added: “I really rate him as a manager. I think he’s brilliant.”
