Chelsea manger Rafa Benitez believes that Joe Hart could have been sent off when he gave away a game defining penalty as Man City beat them 2-0 at the Etihad Stadium.
The England goalkeeper was adjudged to have felled Demba Ba in the 18-yard box after 50 minutes and Andre Marriner refused to issue the custodian a card of any colour.
And that decision disappointed Benitez, who reckoned they could have gone on to win the game had Frank Lampard not seen his spot-kick saved by Hart, despite the Blues’ poor performance in Manchester.
He told talkSPORT: “The penalty was a key incident because it could have been a red card and should at least have been a yellow card and obviously if you score the penalty everything changes.
“I would say that in the first half we didn’t do well. We were giving the ball away. We had problems in possession and we were not winning second balls but, in the second half we started much better.”
