Exclusive - Rodney Marsh: John Terry will never succeed as a manager

Rodney Marsh claims John Terry will never succeed as a manager – as his players would never respect him.

The Chelsea defender is being talked about as a potential successor to Rafa Benitez, who is on his way out of Stamford Bridge after criticising the behaviour of some fans during his reign as 'interim' manager.

The Spaniard insists he won't be at the club next season, and after his outburst following his side's 2-0 FA Cup win at Middlesbrough, there are suggestions he will be gone even before the weekend.

But Marsh is adamant Terry is not the man to take Chelsea forward.

“I would be shocked if John Terry took over at Chelsea,” he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast. “I don’t think he'll ever make it as a football manager.

“The history he’s got and the problems he’s had with Chelsea and England [would make it hard].

“I don’t think you can expect players to listen when you're telling them not to do things you’ve been doing all your life.”
