Exclusive – Allen: World-class Suarez a shoo-in for Player of the Year award

Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen believes teammate Luis Suarez is one of the favourites for the Player of the Year title after a scintillating season of Premier League performances for the Merseyside club.

Suarez scored his second hat-trick of the season in Liverpool’s 4-0 victory over Wigan on Saturday, a trio of goals that took his tally for the term up to a chart-topping 21.

The Uruguayan all but carried Brendan Rodgers’ men through early stages of the season where he was the Reds' only fit senior striker, and Allen told talkSPORT he expects the forward to clinch the award.

Luis Suarez is world-class and when he’s on fire you can’t ask for more from a striker— Joe Allen

“He’s world-class and when he’s on fire you can’t ask for more from a striker,” Allen told Stan on Call Collymore.

“As a fellow player I’m going to be a bit biased, but we’re all hoping he gets named the Player of the Year.

“There’s tough opposition from the likes of Gareth Bale and Robin van Persie, but hopefully he’ll get it.”
