Chelsea have denied reports they are in talks with with Frank Lampard over a new contract.
That appeared to suggest the club were ready to perform a U-turn and extend the 34-year-old's stay at Stamford Bridge beyond the end of this season, having previously shown no inclination to do so.
However, the European champions have since insisted Gourlay was misquoted at a press conference in Bangkok, in which he was promoting the club's pre-season tour in Asia, and moved to clarify his comments on the club's website.
Gourlay said: "I am not prepared to discuss this [Lampard's future] at this time.
"Obviously conversations must remain confidential between the club and the players at all times so that is as much as I can say."
