Rodney Marsh believes Sir Alex Ferguson could decide to walk away from the game after Manchester United’s controversial defeat to Real Madrid.
Ferguson was too distraught to speak to the media according to his assistant Mike Phelan, after Real took advantage of Nani’s red card to dump the Red Devils out of the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Marsh reckons the Scot may now decide to hang up his boots at the end of the season, should he lead United to the Premier League title.
“I would not be surprised if Sir Alex Ferguson, at the end of this season, retires," said the former Manchester City star, speaking on the Sports Bar.
"Tuesday night was the biggest game for Manchester United in years and years and years. He was desperate to win it and you heard what Mike Phelan said after the game, that he could not come out and speak because he was so distraught about losing it.
"He is now 73 years old. He will win the trophy for the Premier League this season and he might want to go out on top as champions. It would not surprise me."
