Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers was thrilled to see his side come back to beat Tottenham 3-2 in a 'severe test'.
The Reds opened the scoring through Premier League leading marksman Luis Suarez before a Jan Vertonghen double pegged them back.
But a Stewart Downing goal and Steven Gerrard penalty sealed all three points.
"It was a very important win for us. We are on a great run at the moment," said Rodgers. "We knew this was going to be a severe test of our character and qualities
"Against a top side we came through we had to get the control back in our favour.
"We can play better than that but it's important for our character and resilience and the goals were of quality as well."
The win moves Liverpool up to sixth and seven points off Chelsea in the lucrative fourth Champions League spot.
