Chelsea to unveil statue of former strike star

Peter Osgood in action for Chelsea back in 1971

Chelsea will unveil a statue in honour of their all-time great Peter Osgood at Stamford Bridge next Saturday.

Osgood, who scored 150 goals in 380 games for Chelsea, died of a heart attack four years ago, and has legendary status among the supporters.

Chelsea commissioned Philip Jackson, the Royal Sculptor who created the Bobby Moore statue at Wembley as well as bronzes of Bobby Charlton and George Best.

Osgood's statue will be opened to the public next Saturday, the day after a private viewing for friends and family. His ashes are already buried under the penalty spot at the Shed End of Stamford Bridge.
