Liverpool are through to the fourth round of the FA Cup after they beat League One side Oldham Athletic 5-1 at Anfield, although they did have to come from behind.
But from the very first minute Paul Dickov’s side set out to stun the Reds as Luca Scapuzzi, on loan from Man City, and Shefki Kuqi both troubled the Premier League side’s defence.
Bellamy was looking lively for Liverpool but his early forays amounted to nothing as the Latics held firm.
And, in the end, Oldham struck first as Robbie Simpson hammered a 25-yard stunner beyond the outstretched arms of Pepe Reina.
The lead, however, was short lived as Jonjo Shelvey saw his effort deflect off Bellamy’s chest and fly past Alex Cisak to level the scores.
Reds skipper Gerrard then made it 2-1 on the stroke of half-time smashing in a penalty off the underside of the crossbar following a push on Maxi Rodriguez.
Jean-Yves M'voto and Tom Adeyemi went close for Oldham as they attempted to equalise but Kenny Dalglish’s side held firm, despite an abject performance from Uruguayan defender Sebastian Coates.
After 68 minutes Jonjo Shelvey swept home a Bellamy cross from 10-yards to put Liverpool in the clear and in the game’s dying embers Andy Carroll and Stewart Downing struck to make the final score 5-1 to the Reds at Anfield.
