Exclusive – Mabbutt: Spurs players can handle Redknapp rumours

Tottenham legend Gary Mabbutt has told talkSPORT that the club’s players can handle all the rumours about manager Harry Redknapp’s future as they continue their title challenge.

Spurs currently sit third in the Premier League, seven points behind leaders Manchester City with 14 games to go.

And with Redknapp being linked heavily with the now vacant England managerial role after Fabio Capello’s resignation the team will face a huge task to remain on track with their season.

But Mabbutt feels that the Lilywhites’ star names will be able to deal with it and carry on with their impressive campaign.

“I think generally players are pretty stoical,” he told Kick Off. “So many things get thrown at them during a season. There are so many pressures and frustrations both on and off the field of play. I think players handle it pretty well.

“This season, if you look at Tottenham, Harry has had a number of things he has had to deal with during the season but the team has been playing some of the best football in the Premier League.

“They’re third in the table and have got a great chance in the FA Cup. The team has been doing amazingly well.”
