Bolton boss Owen Coyle claims an extended run in the FA Cup can help push the Trotters away from the relegation zone.

The Lancashire outfit are perilously positioned in the Premier League drop zone and face a tricky tie away at Millwall in the last sixteen of the cup.

But when asked if this weekend’s trip to the New Den was a distraction for his players the Scotsman said: “If you can win games of football then it is certainly not a distraction. Winning breeds confidence and it gives everyone a lift”.

Coyle added: “We are a point from safety and we are in the last sixteen of the FA Cup. We will look to go and win this cup tie and hope it gives us the momentum so that we can remain in the Premier League”.

Bolton reached the FA Cup semi-final last season before being thrashed 5-0 at Wembley by Stoke City but Coyle still remains a fan of the competition: “The FA Cup is the best cup competition in world football and I'll take issue with anybody who thinks otherwise.

"We have a tremendous history and tradition and a lot of that involved the FA Cup so as a club we want to go as far as we can.”
