The Villans are going through a poor patch of form and haven’t registered a Premier League win since they beat Wolves 3-2 in January.
And speaking to Call Collymore after a 1-1 draw with Blackburn, McLeish insisted their fans had to come together and support the team, who he believes are working hard to get results, as they face two winnable fixtures at Villa Park in the coming weeks.
“We’ve certainly got the application from these guys,” he said. “They’re working their socks off to try and make the Villa fans happy.
“I know it’s a results business that we’re in and that the biggest reason that there is a little bit of dissent, in terms of style of play and all that mythical stuff, is because we haven’t had the results that Aston Villa fans feel that Aston Villa should get, and I’m totally with them on that.
“But believe me it’s not style of play. We don’t ask the players not to express themselves. We ask them to be as dynamic as possible but sometimes they don’t bring everything to the park.
“One thing is for sure, the next couple of home games we will need those Villa fans. They will need to be a twelfth man for us.”
