Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted new signing Bebe is the first player he has ever bought in 24 years without seeing him play - even on DVD!
Ferguson swooped for the Portuguese striker from Vitoria Guimaraes in a £7.4million deal, beating Real Madrid to his signature. And when asked if he had even seen video footage of the 20-year-old, Ferguson said: “No, not on this occasion."
He added: "It’s the first time. Normally I have watched plenty of video footage of the players we sign.
“Our scouting department is very good and they do their work right and sometimes you have to go on instinct.
“You have to trust your staff at times and our scout in Portugal was adamant we must do something quickly. And I sent our chief scout David Gill down to do the deal.
“I don’t know how serious Real’s interest was but they were hovering, and so were Benfica and one or two others. That’s a situation where you have to make a quick decision and I’m not too bad at that.”
