Ossie Ardiles has hailed Sergio Aguero as the ‘new Romario’ and insists he will be outstanding in the Premier League.
The £38m Argentine marked his debut for Manchester City with two goals in Monday night’s 4-0 win over Swansea and Ardiles is expecting huge things from the former Atletico Madrid ace.
The Tottenham legend told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast: “Aguero looked wonderful [against Swansea]. He’s been suffering quite a bit at Atletico Madrid, where he was not getting the service he needs.
“In the Premier League he will be outstanding. He’s very, very quick and clever. He’s very intelligent and can score goals very, very easily. He reminds me very much of Romaria, who was one of the best ever.
“He’s very similar. He lives to score goals. He’s not really a creator, he’s a proper centre-forward. He doesn’t really go deep, he always wants to be close to the box.”
Aguero was the name on everyone’s lips at Eastlands and looks set to be the crowd’s new favourite, with Carlos Tevez having fallen out of favour after requesting to leave the club during the summer.
But Ardiles feels the prospect of the two Argentinean team-mates playing in the same City team is a mouth-watering one.
He added: “It would be great if Tevez and Aguero could play together. Tevez likes to go deep so it could be a great combination. But Carlos has to sort out his mind. He’s very confused in his personal life.”
