• Arsenal set to battle Man United for Danish stopper

    Arsene Wenger

Arsenal are the latest team to declare an interest in promising Danish goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard.

Arsene Wenger could be about to reignite his rivalry with Sir Alex Ferguson for the goalkeeper, currently playing in Norway for Aalesunds FK.

With Edwin van der Sar turning 40 next month, Ferguson is on the look out for another goalkeeper and Lindegaard is high on his list of targets.

CSKA Moscow goalkeeper Igor Akinfeev used to be the one on United's radar but interest in the Russian has cooled for the time being.

Lindegaard, who has been dubbed the new Peter Schmeichel in his homeland, is capped at international level for Denmark and the 26-year-old is expected to become the country's number one when Thomas Sorensen calls it a day.

But United are now wary of interest from Wenger, who endured a frustrating summer transfer window as he failed to land a goalkeeper.

He failed to sign Fulham's Mark Schwarzer and as talkSPORT revealed earlier this summer, Ajax goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg seems intent on remaining in Holland for the time being.

That snub has left Wenger reassessing his options and talkSPORT understands he is now going to keep an eye on Lindegaard, 26.

I don't care if this guy played in the Ryman League, he's got to be better than Almunia, he's the worst goalie I've ever seen, should never wear an Arsenal shirt, not good enough.

No way. He's a good enough goalie but he just played his first national game the day before yesterday because of injuries to the usual suspects. Before that he left OB (Odense) because he didn't want to play second fiddle to Roy Carroll. He's had a good spell at Ă…lesund but at 26 i don't believe in a million years he is into the consideration of Wenger.
