Newcastle United are tracking Lille striker Tulio de Melo, who is out of contract this summer.
Alan Pardew's side have enjoyed a superb campaign in the Premier League and could yet secure a top-four finish this season.
But Pardew is already planning for next season and has targeted de Melo, 27, as a potential addition to his ranks.
The imposing striker has been at Lille since 2008 and his contract is up at the end of the season.
And with Papiss Cisse and Demba Ba seen as the club's first-choice front two, Pardew is hoping a free transfer move for De Melo would help strengthen his options.
