Milan aim to beat Man United to PSV star

Manchester United face missing out on central midfield target Kevin Strootman, who is set for talks with AC Milan.

Sir Alex Ferguson is seeking midfield reinforcements this summer and PSV'S Strootman is a player he is keen on.

Despite posting concerning financial results this week, which showed United are spending around £250,000-a-week servicing their debts, chief executive David Gill insists the club are able to compete in the transfer market.

But they face losing Strootman, 22, as AC Milan have made their move to land him.

The Serie A giants have already landed Riccardo Montolivo and Mali's Bakaye Traore but they remain commited to reinvigorating their midfield.
