Liverpool target Eljero Elia looks set to snub a move to Anfield in favour of joining Schalke.
Rapid winger Elia has been on Liverpool's radar for some time but uncertainty over the managerial position at the club might have hampered their chances of landing him.
Elia moved to Juventus last summer in an £8m deal from Hamburg but he has endured a miserable campaign in Turin, where he has made just four Serie A appearances.
Now the Dutchman looks certain to leave after just one campaign and Liverpool was one potential destination.
But, according to Tuttojuve, Elia now looks set to return to Germany with Schalke keen to strike a deal.
The 25-year-old's best years came in Germany, where he had three impressive seasons at Hamburg and it is understood that he is keen to return.
Now Schalke are trying to drive down the price, with Juventus hoping to recoup the £7.5m they shelled out for him last August.
