Zenit close to deal for Man United outcast

Zenit St Petersburg are nearing a deal to sign unsettled Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov, reports Gazzetta dello Sport.

Berbatov, 31, is tipped to leave Old Trafford before the close of the transfer window after seeing his first-team opportunities diminish last season.

A host of European clubs, including Bayern Munich, AC Milan and Galatasaray, have all been linked with a move for the former Bulgaria captain, but Zenit are leading the race to secure his signature.

The Russian champions are believed to have entered advanced negotiations with both United and Berbatov’s representatives, and they are confident of securing a deal in the near future.
