Roma will rival Man City for Barca star

Roma have set their sights on Manchester City target David Villa - and they could move for the Barcelona hitman in January.

The Italian club's manager Zdenek Zeman is keen to bolster his attacking options after seeing Fabio Borini and Bojan Krkic leave the Stadio Olimpico in the summer, and he is eyeing an ambitious bid for Villa.

Villa, Spain's all-time record goalscorer, has already notched three league goals this season, despite the fact he's started just one game in La Liga.

He missed a large chunk of last season after sustaining a broken leg and has yet to nail down a regular starting berth since his return.

City were linked with a shock bid for the Spaniard during the last transfer window but Roma could now trump them in January, with the Giallorossi thought to be weighing up a €23m offer.
