AC Milan are ready to battle Arsenal for the services of Montpellier skipper Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.
Arsene Wenger is a huge admirer of the versatile 23-year-old defender and was linked with a move for him in the summer.
The France international is out of contract in June and could join the Gunners on a free transfer.
But now Milan are hoping to tempt him to Italy with a move of their own.
The Rossoneri have been linked with Marseille defender Nicolas N'Koulou but reports in Italy have since suggested that the Italian club have switched their attention to Yanga-Mbiwa.
Montpellier could be forced to sell their captain in January, to avoid losing him for nothing in the summer - and Arsenal and Milan are both likely to bid.
