AC Milan could rival Chelsea and Liverpool for the signature of Schalke hitman Klaas-Jan Huntelaar.
Huntelaar, who spent a season at the San Siro before joining Schalke in 2010, has scored 40 league goals since moving to Germany.
The Holland international, who scored for his side against Arsenal in the Champions League last Wednesday, is out of contract at the end of the season and Schalke could be forced to sell him in January in order to avoid losing him for nothing.
Milan are currently languishing in mid-table in Serie A and are thought to be on the lookout for a new forward after selling Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Paris St-Germain in the summer.
And according to sources in Italy, Huntelaar could make a shock return to the San Siro, although Liverpool and Chelsea, who also have a paucity of attacking options, are also monitoring the 29-year-old.
