Exclusive - Nicol: Liverpool don't need Walcott

Steve Nicol believes Liverpool should turn their attentions away from Theo Walcott and onto a proven goalscorer.

The Reds are set to make a move for the England winger when the January transfer window opens, in a bid to strengthen their attacking department, where Luis Suarez remains their only fit recognisable striker.

But former Anfield favourite Nicol claims Brendan Rodgers needs someone more consistent in front of goal.

“Liverpool need players who are proven and Theo Walcott’s not proven,” he told the Sports Bar. “He’s too inconsistent.

“What they don’t need now is another inconsistent player. They need someone who every match you know exactly what you’re going to get.

“They need someone who’s going to get you goals and be consistent every game and that’s not something you can say about Theo, as great as he is.”
