Borussia Monchengladbach are plotting a surprise move for Chelsea's Marko Marin - after watching their former player manage just 20 minutes for his new club.
Chelsea announced the signing of Marin towards the end of last season but his switch to Stamford Bridge has not gone as well as hoped.
He has featured in just one match this season, as a substitute in the 6-0 win over Wolves in the Capital One Cup, with injuries halting his progress.
Marin signed for Roberto Di Matteo's side from Werder Bremen and a return to Germany has been mooted.
He left Monchengladbach for Bremen in 2009 and the winger was highly rated in his homeland before his move to Chelsea.
However, he arrived carrying an injury and has struggled to shake it off. His disappointing start has alerted Monchengladbach and the Bundesliga side are now assessing their options.
They appreciate Chelsea are unlikely to sell a player who has barely been given a chance so early in his career in England - but a loan move could happen in the New Year.
Di Matteo wants Marin to get his fitness up and the 23-year-old's former club are keen on taking him back on a short-term deal.
