Borussia Dortmund want to take Nuri Sahin back to Germany - but Brendan Rodgers could yet be tempted into keeping him permanently.
Sahin joined Liverpool in the summer from Real Madrid in what was seen as a coup for Rodgers.
His loan move has been mixed, though, with encouraging performances combined with some underwhelming displays.
The midfielder's spell at Real Madrid appears to be over less than two years after he moved from Dortmund in an £8.1m deal, and Jose Mourinho is open to the idea of cashing in on him.
But Rodgers will wait until the end of Sahin's season-long loan deal before making a final decision.
If he does decide to make a permanent offer for the 24-year-old, he faces competition from Dortmund.
The Bundesliga side have approached Madrid regarding Sahin's availability and are likely to press ahead in the summer.
