Lionel Messi at Barcelona for life, says superstar's dad

Lionel Messi's dad has said only a 'catastrophe' would ever lead his son away from Barcelona.

Messi recently broke Gerd Muller's record for goals in a calendar year and seems to break records at every turn.

Regarded among many as the finest player to have ever played the game, Messi has spent his life at Barcelona and seems destined to remain there.

His contract expires in 2016 and it is understood negotiations over a new deal are already underway.

Messi's market value is certainly well over £100m and although such an eye-watering price would not deter the world's richest clubs including Anzhi, Manchester City and PSG, the Argentina international's dad believes a move from Spain is impossible.

Jorge Messi told Cadena Cope: "Only a catastrophe would see him leave Barcelona. It's impossible to think Leo can go and play in another team.

"He has always said he intends to end his career with this shirt."
