Atletico Madrid’s general manager Miguel Angel Gil Marin has revealed that Radamel Falcao will not be leaving the club in January.
The prolific Colombian striker has been in scintillating form over the last 12 months, with Chelsea and Manchester City leading the race for his signature.
But it now appears unlikely that he will move away from the Vicente Calderon Stadium in the impending transfer window, although he could leave the club in the summer.
The general manager told talkSPORT: “He will remain with us [in January]. I would like him to remain with us until next summer and I hope he will decide to remain with me next summer but it depends on the proposal the player has.
“At the end of the season I will talk with the player and we agreed when he came to Atletico if he decided it was better for his career, for his family to go out I will try to help him.
“I’d prefer he stayed with me. I don’t need to sell the rights of Radamel, but he’s human.
“If you receive a proposal of seven times more than your salary then I’m sure you’d say you can’t forbid Falcao to increase his salary. I can’t forbid him to improve his performance and his way of life.”
