Reading have joined Newcastle United and Inter Milan in the chase to sign Douglas, the FC Twente defender.
The centre-back was expected to join Newcastle during the last transfer window but the north east club failed to secure a deal.
However, after reviving a deal for another summer target, France international Mathieu Debuchy, the Magpies have reopened their interest in Douglas, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
Twente, who are mindful that the 24-year-old could leave for nothing in June, are keen to cash in on the defender this month.
Despite being born in Brazil, Douglas recently earned a call-up to the Dutch national side having spent more than five years in Holland.
