Aston Villa are following Lazio youngster Luis Pedro Cavanda 'with interest', according to the player's representative.
Villa boss Paul Lambert, whose side have shipped more goals than any other Premier League club this season, is expected to bolster his defensive options this month.
Manchester City defender Joleon Lescott, a childhood Villa fan, has been suggested as a potential target but it is believed that Lambert has been scouring Europe too.
Cavanda, who came through the ranks at Lazio, has established himself as a first-team regular this term following loan spells at Torino and Bari in the last two seasons.
And his agent Ulisse Savini claims the Belgium Under-21 international is attracting interest from the struggling Midlands side.
He told LaLazioSiamoNoi.it: "Next week we will meet with Lazio. We want to plan his future. Currently there are no official offers, but some interest is always pleasing, especially when you're young and start to play regularly.
"Which clubs have turned their spotlight on Luis? Several. Aston Villa, for example, are following him with interest."
