Newcastle have failed in a bid to land Lorient striker Jeremie Aliadiere.
Alan Pardew is frantically scouring the market for a striker having lost Demba Ba to Chelsea, as well as losing out in the race to sign Loic Remy, with QPR looking likely to capture the signature of the Frenchman.
Aliadiere, who has experience of playing in England with Arsenal, Wolves and Middlesbrough, was open to a switch to Tyneside, but Lorient manager Christian Gourcuff says the 29-year-old is not heading to Newcastle.
"I know his wife misses England but Jeremie will be here on February 1," he told L'Equipe.
