Bordeaux forward set to join Newcastle

Bordeaux striker Yoan Gouffran is preparing a move to Newcastle after revealing the news on his official Twitter page.

French press reported yesterday that the Ligue 1 club rejected a bid from the Magpies for the 26-year-old, but the Frenchman proved the rumours to be false after announcing the switch on the social media site.

“Tomorrow I will be a new player of Newcastle and I am proud,” said Gouffran.

"Big thanks to everyone who has supported me through the good times and bad times. I thank the leadership of the club and the staff for helping me grow.

“I needed a new challenge so I hope you will respect my choice.”
