Liverpool will have to wait until the summer to land Modibo Diakite, after Lazio ruled out selling him this month.
The Reds have already held talks with the talented defender and he looked set to move to Anfield before the window shuts.
But, according to reports in Italy, Diakite will now stay with Lazio until his contract expires in the summer and then assess his options.
At 25, Diakite can leave Lazio for nothing and will have his pick of clubs from across Europe.
The Serie A club have done everything to keep him at the club but the Frenchman has snubbed their pay rise offers in order to start a new challenge at the end of the season.
