Liverpool look set to miss out on Lazio defender Modibo Diakite after his agent revealed he is likely to join Napoli at the end of the season.
The France-born centre-back, who has been with Lazio since 2006, is a highly sought-after man as his contract is due to expire in June.
Last month his agent revealed that the 25-year-old had made Liverpool his first choice destination, but he could now spurn interest from the Reds to stay in Italy with Napoli.
Speaking to Radio Sei, his representative Ulisse Savini said: "Diakite should leave Lazio in June on a free transfer to accept the offer from Napoli."
With Jamie Carragher set to retire and speculation surrounding the future of Martin Skrtel, Anfield boss Brendan Rodgers will be forced to search for new defensive recruits if Diakite moves to the Stadio San Paolo.
