Tottenham face a battle with their Europa League opponents Inter Milan to clinch the signing of Argentine star Ruben Botta.
Botta, 23, is rated as one of the hottest properties in South America and has been earning rave reviews for his club side Tigre in the Argentine Primera Division.
Reports in South America claim both Tottenham and Inter Milan have sent scouts to watch him in action and are planning a move to sign him at the end of the season.
Andre Villas-Boas is hoping to see his side qualify for the Champions League next season and wants to build a squad who can compete against the best teams in Europe.
But he will face a major battle to sign Botta as Inter Milan have also been tracking his progress.
The midfielder is a free agent at the end of the season and he is unlikely to sign a new deal to remain in Argentina.
Tottenham face Inter Milan in the last 16 of the Europa League on Thursday night and will be hoping they can knock out the Italian giants and show Botta that they are capable of winning major silverware.
