• Cavani agent plays down Manchester City speculation

Edinson Cavani celebrates scoring for Napoli

Edinson Cavani's agent has played down talk of a stunning late switch to Manchester City.

It has been suggested in the Italian media that Napoli are bracing themselves for last-gasp interest from the Premier League leaders before the window closes next week.

Cavani, 24, is one of the hottest properties in Europe after scoring 37 goals in just 52 Serie A appearances since joining Napoli in 2010.

The Italian club are loathed to sell him and it has even been claimed that they would not accept anything less than £50m for the Uruguayan hotshot.

But big-spending City are one of the few clubs in the world who could stump up that sort of cash, especially if it might help secure their first League title since 1968.

But, speaking to Italian radio station Radio CRC, Claudio Anelucci, Cavani's agent, said: "I do not like talking about the transfer market at the moment.

"What really matters is speaking well of the good season he is having for Napoli. If there is a last-minute offer in January then it will have to correspond to Napoli's valuation - not ours."
