Man United lining up summer swoop for Benfica midfielder

Manchester United are expected to step up their interest in Nico Gaitan this summer and the indication is that he prefers a move to Old Trafford.

United have been keen on the winger for over a year and although they signed Ashley Young in the summer, the club are still keen on Gaitan.

He impressed during United's visit to Benfica in the Champions League this season as part of their doomed campaign to reach the knockout stages and, although there is interest from France and Italy, the Premier League champions believe they can get their man.

Benfica did not want to sell Gaitan, 23, in the January transfer window but are open to the prospect of cashing in at the end of the season.

Manchester City have a passing interest in Gaitan but Sir Alex Ferguson is said to be confident of luring the star to Old Trafford.
