Manchester United and Arsenal are set to step up their efforts to sign Benfica midfielder Javi Garcia.
Ferguson is keen to bolster his midfield after persuading Paul Scholes to come out of retirement, while Wenger is still looking to find long-term replacements for Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri who left the club last summer.
Garcia is also attracting interest from clubs in Italy and Germany and looks certain to command a big-money move at the end of the season.
Garcia's agent Manuel Garcia Quilon has confirmed that two Premier League clubs are leading the chase to sign the talented midfielder and expects some major movement over the next few months.
Quilon, speaking in Portuguese newspaper O'Jogo, said: " There have been no concrete offers, but he is being followed by two clubs in the Premier League.
"There is also one Italian and German club. But the player is focused on doing his best for Benfica and wants to win trophies."
