Manchester United are leading the chase for Ghana ace Anthony Annan.

A number of top clubs across Europe are tracking the Rosenborg midfielder after he impressed at the World Cup.

Chelsea and Arsenal are keeping tabs on developments but Annan's preferred destination is Old Trafford.

Although no official bid has been made, United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has made it known he is an admirer of the 24-year-old's all-action style while Arsene Wenger is a long-term fan.

Norwegian side Rosenborg paid £1.25m for Annan in 2008 and are now bracing themselves for a bid from at least one of the Premier League giants.

Annan's agent Lars Petter Fosdahl said: "We are hoping and expecting one of the top English clubs try to sign him and Anthony has made it clear that's what he wants.

"He would like to move to England and he believes it would be a great challenge. He is brave, a fighter, and it is the right time in his career.

"Many clubs are assessing the situation after he had a great World Cup, but they have been aware of him for a while."
