• Manchester United chasing Danish shot-stopper

    Sir Alex Ferguson

Manchester United are considering a move for Aalesund goalkeeper Anders Lindegaard - and would be prepared to send him straight back out on loan.

Sir Alex Ferguson has three goalkeepers for the new season, with rookie Ben Amos understudy to number two Tomasz Kuszczak and first choice Edwin Van der Sar.

But he has his sights on Danish goalkeeper Lindegaard as a potential successor to Van der Sar, who will be 40 in October.

Aalesund director Henrik Hoff has confirmed United are interested in Lindegaard but he has claimed it would take big money to land the 26-year-old.

But United are mindful that Europe's big clubs are also monitoring the situation and Ferguson wants to beat the rest to the chase by securing a deal for Lindegaard before sending him straight back to Aalesund.

Ferguson has been successful in this type of deal before - he beat Arsenal to the signing of Chris Smalling in January before sending him straight back to Fulham for the final five months of the season.
