    Spurs give up on Richards

Tottenham have given up their pursuit of Manchester City defender Micah Richards following the signing of William Gallas, talkSPORT can reveal.

Spurs manager Harry Redknapp made Richards one of his top targets at the start of the summer and was willing to pay up to £9m to get his man.

City initially showed a willingness to agree a deal before changing their terms and demanding a £15m fee for the England international.

Redknapp lost patience as negotiations stuttered over the past two weeks and instead signed former Arsenal defender William Gallas on a one-year deal.

And now there is no chance of Richards completing a switch to White Hart Lane this summer as Redknapp is happy with his defensive options.

Richards, 22, has worked hard to work his way into Roberto Mancini's plans and the City manager picked him at right-back for the Premier League opener against Tottenham, which finished goalless.

Redknapp believes he needs two more players to challenge for the Premier League title and will now focus his attentions on Sevilla striker Luis Fabiano.
