Arsenal's pursuit of Dutch starlet Stefan de Vrij has been dealt a major blow after the defender revealed his desire to play for Barcelona.
The 19-year-old centre-back has broken into the Feyenoord first team this campaign and, though he is tied to the Rotterdam club until the end of next season, has been closely watched by Arsenal in recent months.
But Arsene Wenger, no stranger to nurturing young talent, has been snubbed by the promising youngster as the Netherlands ace would prefer a move to Spain, even putting a transfer to Germany ahead of the Gunners.
"I dream of playing for Barcelona," he told website Intergoles. "In the future I would love to play there."
"The best thing would be to go to Spain or Germany - the football is more elaborate there than in the Premier League."
