• Ajax stopper snubs move to Arsenal

Arsenal target  Maarten Stekelenburg  is not interested in leaving Ajax following their Champions League qualification.

Arsene Wenger's search for a new goalkeeper has proved unsuccessful so far, with Fulham digging their heels in over his attempts to sign Mark Schwarzer.

Wenger has had two bids turned down for the Australian and had reportedly earmarked Dutch goalkeeper Stekelenburg as a back-up target.

Stekelenburg, 27, was one of the potential players available for transfer at Ajax, with the Dutch club in need of raising cash for transfers of their own.

But after Martin Jol's men sealed qualification to the group stages of the Champions League on Wednesday night, Stekelenburg is keen to remain at the club where he has spent his entire professional career.

Wenger will now have to re-think his options should his interest in Schwarzer fail to amount to anything, with Manchester City adamant that Shay Given is also going nowhere this summer.

Almunia is OK, but Fabianski lacks confidence and that transfers through the whole defence!

I think Mannone will be a great 'keeper and should the the number 2 behind either Given or Schwarzer. Scwarzer is getting near to the end of his career so Given is the best option if City will let him go to a rival team, which is doubtful.

I agree with Angryjohn and being Irish myself, would love to see Shay Given sign. He would give our defenders more confidence and inspire the whole team. Arsene knows we forfeited at least 10 points last season on goalkeeper errors and, regardless of cost, needs to urgently rectify the matter. There are lots of keepers available out there if we are willing to spend the money so come on Arsene......... get that mothfilled wallet of yours out of hibernation and buy a keeper today

There must be about 20 decent keepers available that would all be an improvement on those 2 butter-fingered nervous wrecks. It is far too late to be haggling over fees. Pay whatever is necessary and get a keeper pronto. Being Irish I would love to see Shay Given sign as suggested by Angryjohn. I am angry too about the situation. It cost us a good 10 points last season and I cannot feel confident about the new season without a real quality keeper.

Shay Given should be the one to go for.
